The guidelines for development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under Schedule 20, Clause 3 (3) of the Education and Training Act 2020 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.
If there’s a draw, kids get placed into groups. The school fills spots starting from the top group:
Example: If you live out of the zone but your big sister already goes to the school, you go in group 2 of the ballot. But you still need to be picked in the draw if there are more kids than spaces.

Naenae School operates the following Special Programes:
Kōhanga Te Rā is a Māori Language (Level 1 – Ministry of Education Immersion Language level) that specifically caters for the provision of education delivered through Te Reo Māori. Students who wish to enrol in Kohanga Te Ra at Naenae School will comply with the following priorities and entry criteria. The maximum number of students that can be accommodated at any one time is limited to 155 students in Years 1-8 (8 classes).
Enrolment Criteria - Who can join?
Tava’e is a program that specifically caters for the provision of education delivered in the Samoan language. Students who wish to enrol in the Tava’e unit at Naenae School will comply with the following priorities and entry criteria. The maximum number of students that can be accommodated at any one time is currently limited to 60 students in Years 1-8.

Conductive Education is a programme developed specifically to improve the quality of life for people with neuro-motor disorders. Conductive Education treats neuro-motor disorders as a cognitive learning challenge rather than as a primary medical problem. Conductive Education teaches children to achieve and retain their maximum potential towards independence in all aspects of their life. The maximum number of students that can be accommodated at any one time is currently limited to 20 students in Years 1-8.
