Here at Naenae Primary School we take pride in our mission to look after and take care of Papatuānuku, mother earth. She provides, so we must take care of her. We find that it is important to educate our tamariki about the importance of our environment by teaching them to look after it and maintain it.
Once a week our very own tumuaki Mr Bootten takes a large number of volunteer tamariki around our kura to teach them about how to maintain mārā kai, how to protect our whenua and how to help our gardens flourish to its fullest potential.
As each year passes, our food gardens and orchards produce kai not only for our tamariki, but for our wider community. Giving back is the essence of kaitiakitanga, being guardians of our whenua and our tangata.
Me kii, ‘Toitū te whenua, whatungarongaro te tangata!’
The land remains, while people fade away.
